Aqjeh Qaleh area in the north of Zanjan composed of volcano-sedimentary and volcanic rocks of Eocene which are intruded by Upper Eocene intrusion. Volcanic rocks have olivine basalt, basalt, andesitic basal and andesite composition. Andesitic basalt and andesite have porphyritic texture and consists of plagioclase, clinopyroxene and hornblende phenocrysts. Olivine basalts and basalts show porphyritic, glomero-porphyritic, intergranular and ophitic textures and composed of plagioclase, clinopyroxene and olivine phenocrysts, in which olivines replaced by serpentine. On the petrological diagrams, volcanic rocks composed of basalt, andesitic basalt and andesite and show calc-alkaline to high-K calc-alkaline nature. Based on trace elements vs SiO2 diagrams, two separate set of samples can be distinguished which are indicative for two separate magmatic sources for these rocks. Based on primitive mantle-normalized spider diagrams, the studied samples indicate enrichments in LILEs and LREE along with negative anomalies of HFSE and distinctive positive anomaly of Pb. Based on chondrite-normalized REE patterns, andesitic basalts- andesites show LREE enrichment compared to HREE with a medium to low LREE/HREE ratio ((La/Yb)N between 6.05 and 5.56), and flat HREE pattern along with negative Eu anomaly (Eu/Eu* between 0.055 and 0.059). Samples from basalts demonstrate irregular pattern contained LREE enrichment compared to HREE ((La/Yb)N between 3.82 and 6.06), along with negative Eu anomaly (Eu/Eu* between 0.014 and 0.039). Based on tectonic setting discrimination diagrams, the studied rocks are related to a within plate volcanic rocks. Basaltic samples have been originated from a mantle-derived rock similar to the origin of OIB with a spinel lherzolite composition and with a partial melting degree of about 30 percent, while andesitic basalts- andesite samples are formed from a metasomatized mantle with garnet spinel lherzolite composition and with a partial melting degree of about 10-15 percent.
