The Arya Jonoub iron deposit is hosted by Early Cambrian volcano-sedimentary sequences in the Kashmar–Kerman metallogenic belt. The host rocks include sandstone, diorite, rhyolite to rhyodacite, and gabbro, which have undergone extensive hydrothermal alteration of sodic–calcic and Mg–K types. Diagnostic alteration minerals include amphibole (actinolite–tremolite), clinopyroxene (diopside–augite), epidote, albite, scapolite, phlogopite, anthophyllite, chlorite, and serpentine.Iron mineralization is of the magnetite–apatite type, with apatite content generally less than 1%. Magnetite occurs as granular, massive, disseminated, and brecciated forms. Gangue minerals include phlogopite, anthophyllite, chlorite, actinolite–tremolite, apatite, calcite, dolomite, quartz, albite, serpentine, diopside–augite, and talc. Pyrite and chalcopyrite are the main sulfide minerals associated with magnetite.Geochemical analyses show that Fe₂O₃ ranges from 15.2 to 85.8 wt%, P₂O₅ from 0.1 to 3.5 wt%, and TiO₂ from 0.1 to 1.1 wt%, indicating a low-Ti iron ore type. Total REE contents in the ore range from 65.75 to 1148.57 ppm. Enrichment of LREE over HREE (LREE/HREE ratio of 1.3 to 6.2) suggests a calc-alkaline magmatic affinity. These features are consistent with iron–apatite (IOA) deposits worldwide, including the El Laco deposit (Chile) and deposits in the Bafq district (e.g., Choghart, Se-Chahun, and Chah Gaz).
