Salt crystallization is one of the most common processes of deterioration, which has a significant effect on the decay and disintegration of building stone during its service-life in a building. In conditions where the stone has not enough durable against the crystallization salt, it loses its performance from the various aspects such as aesthetic and technical characteristics, and causes damage to the building. Therefore, it is necessary to accurately and comprehensively evaluate of stone durability against the salt crystallization before its selecting to use in a building. This will lead to the selection of the most durable stone, resulting increase the service life of stone in a building. In present paper, based on a comprehensive review on the previous studies, the methods of evaluating stone durability subjected to salt crystallization have been investigated. Past experiences, technical characteristics of the stone, simulation tests, and statistical models were identified as four common methods for evaluating the stone durability. Depending on the purpose of evaluating the durability of the stone, each of these methods has strengths and weaknesses. In this regard, suggestions have been presented which can be use by the researchers as a guide for a more accurate and comprehensive evaluation of the stone durability.
