Landfill locating is a complex process that incorporates social, economic, environmental, geological, and governmental parameters that require management and planning and has recently been recognized as one of the challenges of urban management worldwide. In order to accommodate different criteria, the ultimate goal is to find the most suitable site that has the least environmental impact on the natural environment around the landfill. The purpose of this study is to determine suitable locations for Ardakan municipal solid waste landfill with environmental and geological surveys using GIS software capabilities and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). In this study, to locate the landfill of Ardakan, it has been used different types information, such as vegetation, slope, lithology, soil texture, the distance from the city, population centers, water supply sources (aqueduct, wells and springs), waterways, mines, access roads (primary and secondary) and so on. In order to map the landfill, it has been used 8 types of information and a final map was prepared using AHP weighting method. According to this study, all areas which are suitable for landfill construction, are in the study area. Finally, the environmental impacts of each of the selected zones No. 2 (East Ardakan) with the least environmental impacts were selected as the best site for landfill in Ardakan.
