Abstract
In this study, the dolomitization models of carbonate rocks within the Khaneh Kat (Triassic) and Shahbazan (Eocene) formations in northeastern Lorestan were evaluated and compared. Two stratigraphic sections were selected and sampled from the Khaneh Kat Formation (northeast Lorestan, High Zagros) and the Shahbazan Formation (north Lorestan, Folded Zagros). The lower and upper boundaries of the Khaneh Kat Formation are erosional unconformities with the carbonate units of the Dalan Formation and the Liassic carbonates (Surmeh Formation), respectively. The lower boundary of the Shahbazan Formation is conformable with the clastic deposits of the Kashkan Formation, while its upper boundary with the Asmari carbonates is unconformable. Two types of dolomites, primary and secondary were identified in both formations. In the Khaneh Kat section, very coarse crystalline dolomites filling fractures are observed; these crystals show zonation, whereas such dolomites are absent in the Shahbazan Formation. In the studied dolomites of both formations, an increasing trend of Fe and Mn and a decreasing trend of Sr from primary to secondary dolomites are observed. The Ca/Mg ratio in dolomites of the Khaneh Kat Formation is 1.89, while in the Shahbazan Formation it is 2.22. Dolomites in the Khaneh Kat Formation are closer to the stoichiometric crystal structure, whereas dolomites in the Shahbazan Formation have not yet reached full stoichiometry. This difference can be justified by the age of the formations over time, dolomites tend to approach stoichiometric composition. The dolomitization model of the Shahbazan Formation corresponds to tidal, seepage, and shallow burial processes, while the dolomitization model of the Khaneh Kat Formation corresponds to tidal, seepage, shallow burial, and deep burial models.
